A sharp mower blade cuts clean; a dull one tears the grass, leaving brown, ragged tips that invite disease - and it makes your engine work harder. Here's how to know what yours needs.

Sharpen it if...

  • The edge is just dull or has small nicks.
  • The blade is still straight and full-width.
  • There's no deep pitting or cracking.

Most blades can be sharpened several times over their life. It's quick and inexpensive.

Replace it if...

  • The cutting edge is worn back or the blade is thin.
  • It's bent, cracked, or has chunks missing.
  • The center hole or ends are worn out of shape.

A good habit

Sharpen at least once a season - more if you mow a big or rough yard. Bring your blade in (or the whole mower) and we'll sharpen or replace it and balance it so it runs smooth. See our blade & chain sharpening service.
